What comes to mind when you hear the word "hospice"? For many young people, hospice care can feel unfamiliar, and conversations about serious illness, caregiving, and end-of-life care are often avoided.
Through our partnership with @temasekpoly LEAD Programme, Dover Park Hospice had the opportunity to engage more than 140 tertiary students, challenge common misconceptions about hospice and deepen their understanding of palliative care. Through candid fireside chats and interactive “Human Library” sessions, Dr Martin Lee (Home Care Doctor), Mr Nathan Khor (Medical Social Work Assistant), Ms Pearlynn Pang (Medical Social Worker) and Ms Katherine Lim (Nurse Clinician) shared their personal and professional experiences, helping students gain a deeper appreciation of the compassion, purpose and impact of hospice and palliative care.
Building on these insights, students then took part in a hackathon where they transformed their learning into social media reels aimed at raising awareness of hospice and palliative care among their peers. Their fresh perspectives may be featured as part of our ongoing efforts, to make this often misunderstood topic more relatable to young people.
